CEFN Fforest fighter Rob Turley believes Carl Frampton will be in for a shock if he thinks their Celtic super-bantamweight title fight will be a walkover.

The pair meet on the undercard of Gavin Rees’ European lightweight title match-up with Andy Murray at Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena on Saturday, June 4.

Welsh champion Turley will be seen by many as the underdog against the big-hitting Belfast brawler who is undefeated in nine contests, winning six by knockout.

But, with the bout also acting as a British title eliminator, the Gwent ace is convinced he will be the one challenging Jason Booth for the Lonsdale belt.

“I’m delighted to be on a big Sky TV bill and to have the chance to progress to a British title fight,” said the 24-year-old, who trains with Tony Borg at Newport’s St Joseph’s gym.

“It’s a chance for me to make a name for myself and I’ve got to make sure I’m in great shape by June 4.

“I wouldn’t normally take the fight at three weeks notice but I’m fit after fighting in Newport (on May 7) and I’ve been sparring against people like Frankie Borg and Gary Buckland, which is great preparation.”

Frampton has quickly built a reputation as a rising star in his native Northern Ireland but Turley believes he has the stronger record.

“He’s a good boy but he hasn’t fought anyone as good as me or the people I’ve taken on,” he said.

“He won the Celtic title in two rounds so we don’t even know if he can go 10 rounds.

“He’s a big hitter but I’ve got a good chin and I’ve never been stopped. He might think it’ll be an easy win if he’s only seen me against Jamie Arthur on Prizefighter,” he added.

“That was a scrappy fight because we knew each other inside out but I’m better than that and if he underestimates me he’ll be in for a surprise.

“I’ll take him the distance and then we’ll see who the better boxer is.My superior boxing skills will be too much for him.”
