The Newport Wasps face the Sheffield Tigers in Premier League action on Saturday with tapes up from 7pm.
The Wasps will give home debuts to new signings Jason Doyle and Justin Sedgmen while Sheffield field three effective heat leaders in Ricky Ashworth, Josh Auty and Shane Parker.
“This will be a tough one against a very good Sheffield side,” commented club captain Leigh Lanham. “However, the Newport management have done well to be patient and wait for riders with a proven track record to become available when the team needed revamping.
“Jason Doyle is a big hitter in the Premier League while Justin Sedgmen had a good season at Birmingham in 2010 and has a big future in the sport.”
Both Australians will have made their actual debut for the Wasps at Edinburgh the night before but are ensured of a warm welcome from Newport fans when they are introduced on the pre-match parade.
Meanwhile, the club have made it plain to the remaining riders that they will continue to monitor their performances as the team sets out to turn their results around after a poor start to the season.
As stated, Sheffield are among the best sides in the division and in addition to their top three have competent second strings Emiliano Sanchez and Hugh Skidmore plus lively young reserves Simon Lambert and Ashley Birks.
