Ben Wright hit his first century of the season as Glamorgan's batsmen built a potentially match-winning lead against Middlesex in their LV= County Championship Division Two match at Lord's.

Wright hit 101, but every Glamorgan player chipped in as they moved from their overnight 151 for one to 517 for eight by the close of day two – an overall lead of 367.

Middlesex, bowled out for just 150 on the opening day, were powerless to stop the Welsh county from moving into an impregnable position, and their lack of a frontline spinner was badly exposed during a long and exhausting day in the field.

Gareth Rees and Newport’s Will Bragg took their second-wicket stand to 140 in the morning session until Bragg was lbw to Tim Murtagh for 87, the left-hander being beaten by a full-length ball which shaped into him down the Lord's slope. Bragg had faced 154 balls, hitting 12 fours.

Rees went on to a dogged 75 before he fell in similar fashion to Murtagh, whose pre-lunch spell was the best of the day from a Middlesex point of view. Too much else served up by the bowlers was moderate fare, however, with the highly-rated Toby Roland-Jones particularly disappointing.

Wright dominated the middle part of the day with some punchy strokeplay, and he was joined in stands of 119 and 60 by Abergavenny’s Mark Wallace and James Harris respectively.

Wicketkeeper Wallace hit a jaunty 46 from 56 balls and Harris, Glamorgan's bowling hero of the first day, also showed he could bat by compiling a solid 41.

Wallace fell lbw to the persevering Murtagh and Harris was bowled by Jamie Dalrymple as he tried to cut.

But then, in the evening session, after Wright had skied an intended pull to mid-on – after facing 128 balls and stroking 14 fours – Graham Wagg and Robert Croft also enjoyed themselves.

The pair put on 101 for the eighth wicket, with Croft content to provide support for the typically-aggressive Wagg, who hit a six and nine fours in his 79-ball 63.

Wagg's contribution ended when he was caught at mid-off towards the end of the day – but Croft was still there on 30 at stumps.
