CERI Jones’ Harlequins recorded a stunning last-gasp 19-18 victory over French aristocrats Stade Français to lift the Amlin Challenge Cup in Cardiff tonight.
The Usk-born, ex-Newport prop, on his way to Worcester, was on the bench for the London club whose triumph also secured Heineken Cup rugby for next season.
Although outgunned for almost the entire clash, Quins won the game thanks to a late try from Argentina wing Gonzalo Camacho with just three minutes to go.
Outside-half Nick Evans still had to convert a tricky conversion but the All Blacks star showed nerves of steel to slot it and send the Quins into ecstasy at the Cardiff City Stadium.
The Parisians, skippered by Sergio Parisse, looked to have sealed the game after a fantastic long-rage drop-goal by another Puma in Martin Rodriquez a few minutes earlier to make it 18-12.
Lionel Beauxis kicked four penalties for Stade while French centre Mathieu Bastareaud also dropped a goal.
Man of the match Evans also got four penalties for Harlequins for his 14-point haul.
Stade were furious after the final whistle with head coach Michael Cheika remonstrating with the officials.
