VERSATILE midfielder Tom Miller has become the latest player to commit his future to Newport County.
The 20-year-old former Norwich City and Glasgow Rangers player, who joined County from Irish outfit Dundalk in January, has signed a one-year contract to keep him at Spytty Park until at least June 2012.
And he’s in no doubt that the Exiles can challenge for promotion to the Football League next season.
“I signed on Saturday and I’m very pleased,” he said.
“I didn’t have the best of starts here but I feel I settled in well by the end of the season and this is an exciting place to be.
“I think we’ve got great prospects for next year now we’ll all be training full-time,” he added. “That will be massive for us. We did well last year considering a lot of the boys were only training two or three times a week.
“The boys will get to know each other better and I just hope we can keep people like Danny Rose and Jamie Collins.
“I think they’d be silly to leave because I think we’re going places at this club.”
Miller started up front in Saturday’s 2-0 Gwent Senior Cup final victory over Croesyceiliog and finished the match in defence after Gary Warren was sent off.
“I hadn’t done much since the Gateshead game so it was good to get back out there,” he said.
“I enjoyed it even though the pitch and the referee made it quite difficult at times.
“I think the young lads did really well, they all did their jobs and it was a good team effort.
“Striker is new to me. I did it in training once and the gaffer seemed to like me there,” he added. “I like playing anywhere and I’ll do a job wherever the manager wants me to play.”
Meanwhile County missed out on an extra £5,000 payment as part of the Charlie Henry transfer to Luton when AFC Wimbledon beat the Hatters 4-3 on penalties in the Blue Square Bet Premier play-off final at Manchester City on Saturday after a 0-0 draw.
Wimbledon will play in the Football League next season just nine years after they were formed.
