A THREE-FIGURE target is proving to be elusive for Glamorgan batsman Will Bragg but the left-hander isn’t complaining.

Glamorgan are in good form ahead of their County Championship clash with Surrey which starts at the Oval this morning.

They climbed to second in Division Two last week with a comprehensive nine-wicket win against Middlesex at Lord’s and Bragg more than played his part after a James Harris-inspired attack had skittled their hosts for 150.

The left-hander from Cwmbran joined forces with opener Gareth Rees in a 140-run partnership for the second wicket.

A maiden first-class hundred still awaits after he was trapped leg before for 87 – his third successive half-century of the campaign and his top score to date.

But after only making a pair of championship appearances last year, you won’t find Bragg complaining after doing his bit for the firsts.

He said: “I’m a little bit miffed off that I couldn’t quite make it to 100 and I felt that I was a bit unlucky with the decision, but I would have taken 87 and getting the team into that position.

“I just want to get over that line and get the monkey off my back but I am happy as long as I am scoring runs and the team is winning.

“Everyone is chipping in at the moment, bowlers and batters, and we seem to be on a bit of a roll.

“We have two big games coming up (a four-dayer at Northamptonshire starting on Sunday) and if we can pick up one win then we will have done very well from a tough run on the road.

“It’s all about momentum and we are all pretty keen to make sure we keep it going before the break for the Twenty20.”

Alex Jones replaces James Harris, who has a sore foot, in a 13-man squad but seamer Chris Ashling is likely to get the start.

Glamorgan will be looking to keep former teammate Tom Maynard quiet after the destructive right-hander recorded his maiden first-class hundred when the teams met at the Swalec Stadium last month.

Glamorgan: G Rees, A Petersen (captain), W Bragg, M Powell, B Wright, N James, G Wagg, M Wallace (wicket-keeper), R Croft, C Ashling, D Cosker, A Jones, W Owen.
