WALES boss Gary Speed has recalled several of his star men for tonight’s wooden spoon clash with Northern Ireland including a recall for West Ham’s Danny Gabbidon.
Cwmbran’s Gabbidon makes his first start since reversing his decision to retire from Wales duty and joins a side also bolstered by skipper Aaron Ramsey and striker and talisman Craig Bellamy.
Another Gwent star, West Ham’s Jack Collison, will also win his eighth cap after overcoming a long term knee injury as Gary Speed makes 10 changes.
Wales are looking to bounce back from Wednesday’s 3-1 defeat to Scotland and will finish bottom of the Four Nations’ tournament if they lose tonight.
However, Welsh boss Speed seems far more concerned with the health of his players and has hit out at Scotland’s Charlie Adam after his stray elbow hurt Sam Vokes, so much so that the Wolves man is currently unable to eat solid food.
Speed said: "He's on liquids only - he can't eat solids.
"That is how he is - that says it all. It's not good. He can't move his jaw, unfortunately.
"I am not one of these people who like to see yellow and red cards bandied about, but what I do want is my players protected and they weren't last night - not at all.
"There were about five or six fouls that went unpunished that if it had been a competitive game would have been yellow and red cards, definitely.
"He [Adam] should have gone.’’ Meanwhile, former Welsh great Neville Southall has hit out at what he describes as a "Mickey Mouse," cup.
Wales are still seeking their first win under Speed, but Southall said: "These results don't matter."
He added: "This is a Mickey Mouse competition. You can tell that by the crowds."
He added: "I think anybody in their right mind will never judge Gary Speed on these games.
"He will have a look at the players. He will have an eye on who he likes and who he doesn't like.
"They (tournament organisers) don't expect anybody to be there and I think it's a Mickey Mouse competition that's brought back as a poor substitute for the home internationals."
