NEWBRIDGE'S Gavin Rees won a unanimous points decision against Ireland's Andy Murray to claim the vacant EBU European lightweight title at Cardiff's Motorpoint Arena.

The 31-year-old former light-welterweight world champion is on course to become a two-weight world champ after edging the judges verdict 115-112, 115-112, 116-112.

Cefn Fforest's Rob Turley went down to a brave points defeat to Northern Ireland's Carl Frampton in the chief support.

But there were routine victories for Pontypool's Jeff Evans and Frankie Borg of St Josephs gym in Newport.
