NEWPORT County boss Anthony Hudson is hoping to push through the signing of three more players in the next few days, but has decided to call time on one of his current strikers.
The Argus can reveal that Hudson, who has already signed goalkeeper Danny Potter, Northern Ireland international midfielder Tommy Doherty and striker Craig McAllister, hopes to add a further trio with talks planned for this week.
Hudson is looking to bring in two more attackers – at least one an out-and-out striker – and a central midfielder before turning his attention to a central defender.
The boss is ready to use the loan market too, to further boost his numbers, but first wants the three key acquisitions to be made.
“We have talks this week and hopefully will have more news soon for our supporters,” he said.
“It is no secret we are looking at strikers, we’ve signed Craig (McAllister) but obviously had a couple leave in the summer.
“We have identified who we want and are meeting this week and would love to get it all agreed.”
However, while at least one striker will be arriving, one is on the way out of Spytty Park.
The Exiles haven’t offered new terms to January signing Steven Lennon and the 23-year old will now be moving on.
The Exiles are also looking at a pair of central midfield players as Hudson looks to secure his biggest signings before the players report back for pre-season training on June 30.
“We ideally would like to have it done, these are players who I think will want to come and play here and who fit the profile of what we are looking for,” he said.
“After that we still want to get a defender and look at one or two other things, but time is on our side.”
The Argus can confirm that the Exiles are hoping to seal a deal for a youngster from Tottenham Hotspur on a season long loan.
The player is a long-term target of Hudson’s and Harry Redknapp confirmed he is willing to do business when he met Hudson at the Celtic Manor on Wednesday.
Hudson revealed that Redknapp went above and beyond to help him out.
“Harry had a good time down here, he stayed up chatting to the directors and myself until 3am and has agreed to hopefully send us a player on loan.
“I don’t want to comment on who that is until it is done and dusted, but it’s a player I feel strongly is ready for this level of football.”
