JASON Tovey’s hopes of being a World Cup ‘bolter’ rest on the results of a scan on his injured back and hamstring.

The uncapped Newport Gwent Dragons star was forced to head back from Wales’ training camp in Poland on Monday after suffering a nerve problem.

The 22-year-old had been receiving treatment on an injured hamstring before travelling to Spala for what the Wales coaching team have said is a gruelling, intense camp.

Further tests will determine the damage and whether the will be available for the three pre-World Cup Tests in August against England, home and away, and Argentina.

Tovey was one of three uncapped players named in Warren Gatland’s 45-man preliminary squad with his ability to play full-back as well as his favoured fly-half helping to cover a threadbare back three.

Meanwhile, the Bisley Stand development at Rodney Parade is slightly ahead of schedule.

It is expected that the Dragons will face Cardiff Blues at home early in the RaboDirect Pro12 season and they will want the new stand up and running by then.

That means using Newport’s first home game of the season in September as a test run.

Only the Hazell Stand and Terrace and North Terrace will be in operation for the Men of Gwent Sevens and the Dragons’ friendly against Russia, while the region are attempting to set up another home warm-up.

The Scarlets have signed three players that used to ply their trade at Rodney Parade.

Centre Rhodri Gomer Davies left the Dragons at the end of the season while utility back Rhys Jones was not retained by Newport after a season disrupted by injury.

Fly-half Aled Thomas, who spent three seasons with the Dragons between 2005 and 2008, joins from London Welsh.
