ALUN Wyn Jones is set to become the latest player to join the 50-cap club when Wales take on England at Twickenham in a fortnight.

Holding an impressive CV, his career has already seen him win a Grand Slam, play in three Lions Tests as well as claim trophies with the Ospreys – all by the fairly tender age of 25.

Wyn Jones is a shoo-in for a place at the autumn’s World Cup, set to be his second after playing a part in Wales’ ill-fated tournament of four years ago.

An athletic and aggressive lock, who has turned his hand to the back row, he is one of Wales’ top performers and a much admired operator.

But the 6ft 5in, 18st 10lb, law graduate from Swansea is smart enough to know not to blow his own trumpet too loudly.

Wyn Jones insists he isn’t looking past his next training session on Wales’ pre-Rugby World Cup camp in Poland.

But he would be delighted to win his 50th cap in London – where he was a winner with Wales during the 2008 Grand Slam.

“If I get there at Twickenham or back home in front of the home fans it would be a special moment for me, but I don’t want to think too far ahead”, he said.

“I’m not counting my chickens by any stretch and I need to keep my head down, work hard and stay fit and hope that I get the opportunity.

“This is one of those years with only a short amount of time off and getting to that World Cup will be about endurance.

“If you can gain selection, when the squad is announced you have to get on with it and don’t take a step back.”

Next month’s pre-tournament warm-up games sees Wales away to England ion August 6, a return match at the Millennium Stadium on August 13 and Argentina in Cardiff on August 20 before jetting off to New Zealand for the World Cup which sees them face South Africa in their first match on Sunday, September 11.
