NEWPORT Drillerman Hornets fans get their first glimpse of new signings Brendan Johnson and Steven Jones at Queensway Meadows Stadium tomorrow.
The pair made their debuts in a 54-39 away National League defeat at the hands of Scunthorpe Saints recently and now make their home bow against Isle of Wight Islanders – tapes up at 2.30pm.
“The newcomers are good riders and even though Steven Jones is making a speedway comeback after a three-year absence, he showed at Scunthorpe he still has talent to do well for us in the remainder of the current season,” said Hornets team boss Kevin Brown.
The fixture gives the Hornets the chance to avenge a Knockout Cup, first-round defeat earlier this season.
Having been beaten 56-38 on the Isle of Wight on May 10, the Hornets' brilliant 53-40 home victory four days later was not enough as the exited 96-91 on aggregate.
Johnson and Jones have been brought in for Newportonians David Gough, who is recovering from injury, and the rested Tom Young.
The current duo are in action for the Hornets tonight (7pm), when they attempt to land silverware at the NL Four-Team Championship at Stoke Potters' Loomer Road home. The Hornets have been drawn to face hosts Stoke, Belle Vue Colts and Buxton Hitmen.
See Monday's Argus for a full round-up of the weekend's speedway action.
