Newport Hornets 47 Isle of Wight Islanders 43.
TODD Kurtz posted an immaculate 15-point maximum as Drilleramn Hornets produced a late surge at Quensway Meadows Stadium yesterday.
The teenage Australian won all his five races in dominant fashion and was well backed by skipper Jay Herne and home debutant Brendan Johnson.
And making a welcome return to form was Newportonian James White-Williams, who won two of his last three races in fine style.
However with only four races remaining, the visitors, who included former Newport rider Nick Simmons, actually were still leading by 35-31.
But the Hornets roared to victory with a couple of 5-1s and two 3-3 to record an unlikely win.
Newport Drillerman Hornets 47: 1 - Todd Kurtz 15(5): 2 - Steve Jones 0(4); 3 - Brendan Johnson 9+1(4); 4 - Matt Bates 3+1(4); 5 - Jay Herne 10+1(5); 6 - Richard Andrews 2(3); 7 - James White-Williams 8(5).
