THE song says I Belong to Glasgow, but the British Premier League Knockout Cup belongs to Newport Mike Manning Audio Wasps, who will be presented with the silverware ahead of tonight's home clash against - Glasgow!
The ceremony will take place ahead of the 7.30pm tapes-up start and the meeting is one of three between the respective cup and league champions.
The teams will meet again twice on Sunday at Glasgow, the first meeting beginning at 1.30pm and the second scheduled to start at 3.30pm.
The Wasps clinched the cup by thrashing Glasgow 106-74 over two legs at the start of this month and they now have a target of finishing as fourth.
Even to be in this position is a quite remarkable turnaround of fortunes for the Wasps, who were rock bottom of the 14-strong table after losing their first five home fixtures.
However since the arrival of dashing Dane Charlie Gjedde, who doubles up with Elite League side Belle Vue Aces, the Wasps become the league’s most in-form team.
They have gone on to post 11 successive home league and cup wins and are the league’s most successful away club in terms of the amount of maxiumum match-point wins recorded this season - five.
In the 23 league and cup meetings the Wasps have ridden in since Gjedde's arrival from league rivals Berwick Bandits in early July, the have won 16 and drawn one and lost only six.
They will start on Friday in eighth position, but trail fifth-placed Scunthorpe by only five points and with no less than six fixtures in hand.
Indeed the Wasps are just nine points adrift of Somerset, who are fourth, having completed five meetings less.
With the Wasps again using the rider-replacement for the unavailable Jason Doyle at Queensway Meadows Stadium on Friday, they have named Newport-born James White-Williams in their squad as number eight.
Glasgow, however, are minus two key men in skipper Joe Screen and former Wasp Michal Rajkowski. In come Berwick's Swedish star Linus Eklof as a guest replacement with rider replacement being used to fill Rajkowski's absence.
