NEWPORT Gwent Dragons outside half Steffan Jones is a major doubt for Thursday’s RaboDirect PRO12 derby clash with Cardiff Blues at Rodney Parade.
The talented 21-year-old injured his groin playing at fly half for Cross Keys in their Premiership showdown at home to Swansea this evening.
The Bargoed product came off seven minutes before the interval in Keys’ 42-7 bonus point victory over all the All Whites at Pandy Park.
The full extent of Jones’ injury is uncertain tonight but he will be assessed over the weekend.
Keys head coach Greg Woods said: “It looks like a bad groin injury but we’ll have to wait and see what happens when he is re-assessed tomorrow.”
Jones, who has played 11 times for the Dragons this season, was on the bench for the region’s 24-14 defeat to Munster last weekend.
He didn’t come on however, Lewis Robling playing the full 80 minutes at outside-half.
Jones was expected to be in contention for selection for the Blues game.
