NEWPORT County have in the last few minutes released a statement announcing two new signings for next season.
The statement from manager Justin Edinburgh reads: I appreciate that you have all been waiting for news on new players.
At last Wednesday's meeting at Rodney Parade, I stated that I would not be releasing any news on players until the " ink was dry ! ". I am sure that you will all understand, that going public with players with whom you are negotiating, can often have the wrong effect, by drawing the attention of other Clubs.
For weeks, I have been in talks with numerous players. There is no doubt about it, the new venue at Rodney Parade, has greatly assisted with those negotiations, and tonight I am pleased to announce that 2 new players have today signed for the Club.
They are : Jake Thompson ( 23 ) - a central midfielder, who last season was with Forest Green Rovers. Jake was a former Southampton Youth player and previously he had been on loan with Torquay. Jake caught my eye, and impressed me during our games against FGR. I am delighted that we have been able to agree terms to obtain his signature for this coming season, with an option for a second season.
Jefferson Louis ( 33 ) - at 6' 3", Jefferson is a very experienced striker at this level of football, having also played League Football at Oxford United and Bristol Rovers. Jefferson is an athletic player with pace, who last season, was with Lincoln City. He played for me whilst I was managing Rushden, and I am very pleased to have him back in my squad.
I am sure that you would all wish to join me in offering a warm welcome to both players, who are both excited at the prospect of playing at Rodney Parade.
This may well be the start of a busy week.
I feel confident that further news will be coming out to you as the week progresses.
