FOLLOWING the success of Team GB’s Olympic training camp at the Wales National Velodrome, Newport is gearing up to welcome three Paralympic cycling teams to the city.
Australia, the USA and Team GB’s Paralympians will fine tune their preparations for the Games, which get under way on August 29, by making the Velodrome at the International Sports Village their home for the next two-anda- bit weeks.
Australia kicked off yesterday with an open training session for the public, with further sessions planned for August 17 (9am-12pm) and August 23 (7-10pm).
No booking is required for the sessions, just turn up half an hour before the scheduled start time.
All three teams will be hoping the city has a similar affect it had on GB’s all-conquering Olympic cycling team who picked up nine medals, including seven golds from a possible 10 available, after using Newport as their pre-games base.
