NEWPORT County AFC made it three wins out of three with a nervy 2-1 victory over Lincoln City at Rodney Parade.
A crowd of 3,022 saw the Exiles race into a 2-0 lead in the first half thanks to two goals from top scorer Aaron O'Connor.
The first was set up by Jefferson Louis with a long through ball that O’Connor raced on to and poked goalwards.
Lincoln ‘keeper Paul Farman got a hand to it but couldn’t prevent the ball hitting the corner of his net.
The second was the result of a neat one-two between Danny Crow and Jake Thomson.
Trinidad & Tobago international Thomson found O’Connor in the box and the striker took the time to control, swivel 180 degrees and fire in off the post.
That makes it five goals in three games for the former Luton man.
But Jamie Taylor pulled one back for the visitors with a powerful header from Dan Gray’s cross just after the break.
And that changed the whole atmosphere at Rodney Parade as the tension levels rose for the Exiles fans and manager Justin Edinburgh.
The Imps went close on a number of occasions to earning a point but County held on for three more points and now sit proudly on top of the Blue Square Bet Premier with nine points.
