Rhys who attends St.Julians High School was drafted in off the bench for the cup tie at Rodney Parade as Newport took on Blackwood. The expected mascot could not make it on the day so Rhys stepped in. Rhys spends most of his matchdays helping on the FoNR Stall as well as selling raffle tickets. As such it was fitting that he be rewarded with a chance to lead out the team.
First he met up with favourite players Mike Poole and Dai Pattison before leading the team out with Dai.
His performance was inspirational as Newport notched up an impressive 69 points against their First Division rivals who were more than worth the 17 points they scored. OLets hope we get another home draw in the next round.
