Friends of Newport Rugby are delighted to be able to announce that our community officer, Nick Jackson, has been shortlisted for a special award from the Welsh Rugby Union. Nick has reached the final stage of voting for the 'Services to Rugby/Unsung Hero/Volunteer Award'.

Nick has performed this valuable role for FoNR since its formation in 2003 and is the main focal point for all of the Trusts activities with the junior clubs from the Newport area and also the local schools.

Nick coordinates all match mascots and guards of honour and also drives the community project where local schools and junior clubs are coached by Newport RFC players. Nick is very involved in all aspects of fundraising for FoNR and coordinates the various sponsorships that FoNR donate to the local youngsters playing rugby in the Newport area.

Nick fits the WRU criteria perfectly as ‘a volunteer who gives their time and energy to develop rugby in the community’.

Everyone at FoNR and Newport RFC wish Nick ‘all the best’ for the award which will be selected and presented at a special WRU dinner at the Millennium stadium on June 2nd.
