Megan Rowles and Alex Banton, both ten years old, made their mascot debuts for Newport RFC at the 2012 season B.I.C opener against Connacht A. This was a tough challenge for Newport so maximum inspiration was required.
Megan attends Rogerstone Junior school and her pal Alex attends Pentrpoeth Junior School. Alex also plays for Whiteheads U11 so he wasn't a new vistor to Rodney Parade.
First, the mascots met leading try scorer Eliot Frewen before leading out the team with captain Craig Attwell. Craig scored a try during the game.
The match was a close and tense affair with many a nail being bitten. However the result was favourable to the home crowd as the Black and Ambers came through with a win, perhaps partially inspired by our young mascots.
