Little known and under appreciated, the local artists of South Wales shine in the Llantarnam Grange pop-up exhibition celebrating 75 years of Cwmbran!

The exhibition was open to people of all ages, abilities and styles with the aim of bringing the community together through the power of art, marking 75 years since the development of Cwmbran town.

There were 64 submissions to the exhibition with some artists showing two pieces of work.

These were all displayed in an empty retail store in the town centre from the 19th to the 25th of October.

The exhibition included works from Richard Cox, an artist based in Cardiff who has worked internationally and Andrew Trimby, who submitted two large ceramic pieces.

I spoke to Sophie Lindsey, the marketing and development officer for the Grange, who said that the exhibition hopes to “showcase the creative talent in Torfaen and beyond”.

She also said that “by working with Cwmbran Centre, we created an exhibition outside of a permanent gallery space and (have) been able to meet more people in our community”.

Llantarnam Grange has been at the forefront of local art for many years, and this exhibition is just one of the ways they have given establishing artists a voice.

If you enjoyed this pop-up exhibition or missed out and want to find out more, they have many up-and-coming events to look forward to.

Their next exhibition is in just a month on the 30th of November, this includes works from ceramic artist Toni De Jesus in Gallery One and illustrations by Jon Langford in Gallery Two.
