The outstanding act of Gravity circus was performing in Tredegar Park, on the 29th of September as a part of their 5 days stay in Newport from the dates 25th to the 29th of September 2024.

Originally from Italy, the group was there as a part of their new show, “Equilibrium” during their 12-week tour around the UK, sharing their mesmerising talents with the British public.

I had the fortune of experiencing the wonders of the circus performance myself, the near sold-out  crowd was captivated by the numerous acts which included ariel silks, the tightrope, juggling, magic acrobatics, and the Wheel of Death.

Each act was skilfully performed, leaving the big top tent full of people in amazement, while the air was full of energy and sweet scents of popcorn.

A particularly amazing act was by Silke Pan, Swiss paraplegic performer who gave the audience the the inspirational and emotional retelling of her story via her wheelchair acrobatics, showing her strength and determination, while doing what most people could not be willing or able to do.

Other thrilling acts previously mentioned, such as the tightrope and Wheel of Death showcased by Rivera Brothers Troupe, a duo of performers, again had the audience on the edges of their seats, watching in anticipation for the proficient movements of the performers to be executed.

They acted mid-air, pulling of tricks like going backwards, jumping, and running along both the tightrope and Wheel of Death, ensuring the audience could not risk blinking for a second at the risk of missing a remarkable show.

There was also comedy from “Mister David”, also known as Davide Demasi. He called upon certain members of the audience who had a chance to go centre stage and experience the fun of being a part of the circus. At different times, a young boy was called from the crowd and man to play a part of acts which surrounded around juggling, creating an included and fun scene.

Miss Elena, another acrobat, demonstrated her breathtaking ability on the aerial silks while an impressive, choreographed dance by Claudio Grimaldi’s dance troupe played out below as enchanting water affects were activated

In the background, a tune played by Francesca Crotti and her electric violin, adding to the whimsical atmosphere, with the crowd still focused entirely on the scene before them.

At the end of the two-hour show, audiences were overwhelming positive about their experience. Jack Ottewell, 40 years old from Newport stated, “The performances were amazing, we’d definitely visit again!”

After its last night in Newport on September 29th the circus will be moving on to Blackheath Common, Shooters Hill Road from the 24th of October to the 3rd of November.
